Every day, a young person has a life-changing learning opportunity, thanks to an out-of-school time program.

But all too often, the practitioners who make these programs happen have to spend precious time searching for high-quality content—or adapting lesson plans that were designed for somebody else or some other setting.

Mizzen Education exists to change the equation.

Mizzen got its start in 2020 as Mizzen by Mott, an all-in-one free mobile app conceived and incubated by the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation, and uniquely created with and for the out-of-school time field. Now an independent 501(c)3 nonprofit, Mizzen Education continues to grow and move its mission by partnering with practitioners across the country to pioneer custom-built learning solutions for the out-of-school time space.

Whether you lead a youth-serving program in a classroom, club, or community center, at 7 AM, 3 PM, on the weekends, or in summer, we can't wait to collaborate with you!

Beyond offering high-quality learning resources, we work hand-in-hand with out-of-school time professionals around the country to: 

  • Understand and continuously adapt to meet the evolving needs of the field. 
  • Host capacity-building experiences that empower practitioners to hone their own skills, or level up their teams. 
  • Convene gatherings that build community, celebrate "aha moments", and spotlight out-of-school time creativity.

At Mizzen, we’re all about connection. Our name, Mizzen, speaks to our commitment to working "at the middle", connecting educators with content, quality with equity, and passion with innovation. 

Designed with community input, our logo is both modern (future-oriented), and a little old-school (rooted in our core values).

The Zs at its center make way for a dotted bridge that stands for our role as a connector— and the continuous journey of learning itself. The four dots represent our core values.
