List some global issues students might be interested in. Issues may include:

The environment and climate change
Sustainability
Diversity
Protecting individual freedoms
Healthy eating and lifestyles
Social media

Write “Global Issues” on the board. Tell students that in this activity they will make collages that represent a major global issue. When they are finished, they will hang their collages around the room and then discuss each other’s work.
Ask students to name some important global issues that people face right now. List them on the board. Provide other examples, as necessary, such as those you identified before the activity.
Have students choose a global issue that they would like to depict in their collage. Have them form pairs or small groups based on which issue they have selected.
Tell students they can represent the global issue however they like, including a combination of pictures, text, and headlines, as well as drawing, writing, or cutting the paper.
As students work, walk around the room to provide encouragement.
When students seem to be finishing up, ask them to tape their collages on the walls around the room.
When all the collages are posted, instruct students to walk around the room and study each group’s work.
Have students reconvene. Ask them to discuss what they liked about each group’s collage, including anything that was particularly unique or effective.
To wrap up, ask students what they learned from this activity. Ask:
- How did you pick a global issue for this activity?
- How did each group get its message across? Were their techniques similar or different?
- Do you think using images to represent a global issue was easy or difficult? Why?

Write the global issues on slips of paper, and pick 1 from a paper bag or other container. Divide students into groups to make collages based on this 1 global issue. Have them compare and contrast how each group communicated the same idea.
