If more than one adult will be attending the session, consider conducting the activity in small groups with a separate leader assigned to each group. Plan to divide children into groups by age or by school class.

Tell students that today they will be playing Simon Says but with a twist. Some of the instructions will have 1 step, while others will have 2 or 3 steps.
Review the rules for Simon Says:
- The leader gives a command.
- Children follow the commands that begin with “Simon says.” Children should not follow the commands that do not begin with this phrase.
- Children who follow the commands without “Simon says” should sit to the side until the round ends.
- The last child standing wins the round. Then everyone rejoins the game and play continues.
Remind children that the key to competing in Simon Says is to listen closely to the commands.
Play 1 or 2 warm-up rounds with the whole group, using one-step commands. For example, say, “Simon says … touch your toes, say your name aloud, stick out your tongue, march in place, give a thumbs up sign,” and so on.
Once everyone is warmed up, introduce the concept of 2-step commands. Remind children to listen closely and to complete each command in succession, and not all at once. For example, pretend to paint a wall, and then touch your toes.
Play a few rounds of Simon Says using 2-step commands.
After playing with 2-step commands, introduce 3-step commands. Play a few rounds of 3-step commands.
Toward the end of the time period, mix up the routines and play with a mixture of 1-step, 2-step, and 3-step commands. Remember to intersperse commands with and without “Simon says.”
To wrap up the activity, ask these questions of the whole group.a. How was this version of Simon Says different from other versions you have played?b. How did including the 3-step commands change the game?c. Do you ever receive 2-step or 3-step commands in daily life, perhaps from a teacher or other adult? If so, discuss some examples.
