For the class, prepare:

Beanbags
Bucket or can
Cardboard and rope or a sled
A slide
Three toy trains
A large bowl or plastic tub
Newspaper
Plastic jewels
Tent pegs
Red plastic cups
Two large tupperware
Two large wooden spoons

You can set up this simple obstacle course before the kids arrive.

Introduce to students that they're going to run through a train-obstacle course. Remind students that they must follow all your instructions and rules.
Before letting them go through the obstacle course, instruct/demonstrate to students the following:
1. Throw the beanbags (aka coal) into the pipe.
2. Just like the trains, the kids had to haul freight. Students could be the freight (be in the sled) or have the sled weighted down with something at least ten pounds.
3. Send three toy trains down the tube.
4. At the \"Boulder Pit,\" have kids dig through the newspaper boulders in search of diamonds. You can use paper diamonds in a bright color, marbles, or plastic jewels.
5. Make a rope obstacle by tying rope close to the ground using stakes or tent poles.
6. Hide prizes under cups. The kids have to search until they find one.
7. The far container has lots of “ball pit” balls. Instruct kids to move ten balls from one container to the other as fast as they can, to simulate switching freight.
8. Have kids carry a paper train cutout on a spoon between two points.
Let students go through the obstacle course a few times.
To conclude, have a final discussion with students on what they thought about the course.
