- Post two pieces of chart paper.
- Ask the youth to picture a world without pollinators, particularly bees, mentally.
- Have the youth share their mental images with the group.
What’s Happening (10 minutes)
- Have the youth form groups.
- Distribute the Bee Population Charts to each group.
- Tell the youth to examine the charts in pairs or small groups and discuss what they observe. Encourage them to identify trends and changes in bee populations over the past ten years.
- Ask:
What’s Causing the Decline (25 minutes)
- Distribute a few newspaper passages to each group.
- Post a third piece of chart paper.
- Groups should read the quotes and compile a list of potential causes for the decline in bee populations.
- Review the results.
- Have the youth determine the most likely causes of the bee population decline.
Closing Activity (5 minutes)
